Ha! That is what I say to all the poeple who thought I was stupid because I was bitching about daylight savings time. Turns out DST kills people. Yes you read me right, it K-I-L-L-S people. Ha! Read it and weep baby!
I’m here to fill you on the reality of daylight savings time and how it kills dozens, maybe hundreds of people each year.
You like Swedes? They are pretty smart right, even with their funny little accents. And let’s face it, with an export like Alexander Skarsgard you have to love them, for that alone if nothing else.
While I can’t quite picture in my head where Sweden is exactly (I know the sorta general area I think) Swedish researchers, have been keeping track of illness, death and time for over 20 years now and it turns out that, just like I always said, Daylight Saving Time is truly an evil beast.
As soon as clocks get rewound an hour there were less heart attacks. Okay, so that sounds like a good thing, I’m thinking maybe I was wrong about all this DST crap. Oh, no, wait, what is it that happens when it comes time to spring forward? Oh yeah, people DIE.
Instantly said all those people who didn’t have a heart attack, those who were saved from death when the clocks went back drop dead when it springs forward.
Okay, fine, not quite but there really is a big jump in the numbers of heart attacks, especially in the first few days.
I didn’t make this up, there is a good reason for this. It all boils down to our sleep. If we don’t get enough of it we don’t just get cranky, our cardiovascular health suffers.
Now do you agree that Daylight Saving Time is ridiculous?
But even with all that health stuff, I still think we should get rid of it because it doesn’t make sense. The time should be the time. Period.
It may mean that here I work from 9-5 whereas someone on the other side of the world works 5-3 or whatever. Think about it, is someone born in the same hospital as you on the same day, same hour, same minute but who moved to, say, Australia on the other side of the International Date Line actually older than you?

I have heard of this fact before and it’s a bit depressing at how easily the number of deaths can change from a small clock change..
also, that’s a really good question – would that also then make EVERYONE across the international border “older” than us?
